Children from across Chichester were treated to a memorable literary experience last week, as bestselling author and illustrator Guy Bass visited Chichester Cinema for a special Childrens BookFest event.

Delivered in partnership with local charity Childrens BookFest, the event welcomed children from the home education community alongside school pupils in receipt of pupil premium, creating an inclusive and inspiring celebration of reading.

During the visit, Guy Bass shared insights into the creation of his much-loved Stitch Head series and its journey from page to screen. The talk was followed by the Chichester premiere of the film adaptation, giving young audiences the chance to see the story brought vividly to life on the big screen. Each child also received a personally signed copy of the book to take home.

Walter Francisco, Head of Programming at Chichester Cinema, said:

We were delighted to welcome Guy Bass to our cinema and to be part of this wonderful initiative alongside Childrens BookFest. Helping audiences discover great stories is at the heart of what we do, and it was fantastic to share this experience with so many engaged young people.

The event formed part of Chichesters Year of Reading celebrations, a city-wide initiative in response to the national Go All In campaign that encourages more young people to discover the joy of books.

Georgina Lippiett, Festival Director for Childrens BookFest, comments:

Connecting children with authors is one of the most effective ways to spark a love of reading. Seeing their excitement as they met Guy Bass and then watched Stitch Head come to life on screen was incredibly rewarding, and exactly what Childrens BookFest is all about.

Following the success of the event, the Stitch Head film will continue to screen at Chichester Cinemathroughout the Easter holidays, offering families an opportunity to enjoy the story together. Understanding the financial pressures on families at present, the cinema is making all adult tickets just £3.50 and childrens seats just £3.00!
