Southbourne Welcomes Scottish Folk Band with an International Reputation

Wemsfest welcomes back to the area The Tannahill Weavers, who have become one the worlds top Scottish folk ensembles with a mix of traditional melodies and modern rhythms.
Formed
from a Paisley pub session in 1968, they named themselves after the towns
textile industry, and its poet laureate, Robert Tannahill. Glasgow Celtic
Connections saw them as both seminal trailblazers and national
treasures.
The
band comprise Roy Gullane, Phil Smillie, Iain MacGillivray and Allistair
McCulloch; Iain is involved with Outlander and Men in Kilts, whilst
Alistair teaches at Scotlands Royal Conservatoire these musicians
have top credentials.
Their
music includes high-octane instrumentals, topical songs, lullabies, tight
harmonies and foot stomping reels and jigs; they are top entertainers who will
provide a great evenings entertainment at the Old Orchard this month.
