Novium Talks: The Life and Afterlife of Fanny Cornforth

22nd October, 18:30-19:45
2197257 1024xdne

Organised by : The Novium Museum

To art lovers all over the world, Fanny Cornforth (aka Sarah Cox, Sarah Hughes and Sarah Schott) was the epitome of pre-Raphaelite beauty. Model for and companion to the artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti for 25 years, Fanny was long portrayed as being greedy, uneducated and criminal, but how much of that was true and how much reflects the prejudice of Rossettis friends and biographers? Should she be seen instead as a pioneer, a steadfast friend and the most wronged woman in art history? This is the key question posed in a fascinating talk by Kirsty Stonell Walker, author of the 2022 Cornforth biography, Stunner.

The talk starts at 6:30 but the museum will be open from 6pm for those wanting to visit the associated ChichestHER exhibition beforehand. Entrance is free but please book ahead.
